History

The Thetford Volunteer Fire Department was incorporated in 1960. Concerned about the need for fire protection after some large fires in town, a group of concerned citizens decided creating a formal department was the next step. Some of the founding members are still part of our community today, including, Elmer Brown. The original location of the fire station was where the interstate is now located. Once Interstate 91 was constructed, the fire station was constructed in its current location on Thetford Hill. The department has been incorporated as a private organization with non-profit status since 1960 and has a written contract with the town of Thetford as the sole provider of fire protection for the town.
